ARCB

Athena and The River City Boys Band

"Athena and The River City Boys"  is an award winning acoustic country teen band from the Portland Oregon area that have been together since 2001. They play a wide range of "down home" music, including bluegrass, country, and classic popular tunes from days gone by. ARCB has performed throughout the Northwest at county fairs, bluegrass festivals, at corporate parties, on radio and TV, and at the prestigious Wintergrass festival and Pendleton Roundup. As a group, they placed third in the Stevenson Columbia Gorge bluegrass festival band contest, where they competed against all adult bands. Years of theatrical experience is evident in this trio's professional stage presence. Their first self titled CD was released in February 2003 and has been a complete success. Today ARCB is recognized as an up and coming talented teen band with a generous fan base.

Tristan Schumacher    Athena Patterson    Martin Stevens

Athena Patterson is a an 18 year old singer / songwriter, with a powerful passionate voice and a love for making music. She plays the guitar, mandolin and bass for the band, and sings lead and harmony vocals. Athena and The River City Boys often perform, and arrange together, many of her original tunes. Her most recent credits are first place winner in both vocal and dobro categories at a bluegrass festival talent contest.
At age 12, when Athena was introduced to 13 year old multi-instrumentalist Martin Stevens, there was an immediate connection of mutual admiration. After performing together as band mates in a youth bluegrass band, they realized the potential of a career together. This meant forming their own band, so in the fall of 2001 "Athena and The River City Boys" was born.

Tristan Schumacher is a talented, energetic 17 year old bass player who competed and won at his first bluegrass festival bass contest. At the age of 12 he was invited by Martin Stevens, his long time theater friend, to join him and Athena Patterson, to form a trio. Tristan is ARCB's youngest and newest member to the music scene. In addition to the stand up bass, Tristan plays the electric bass and guitar for the band. He sings lead and harmony vocals as well.
Adding to his musical achievements, at the age of 14, Tristan co-stared with Jonah the chimpanzee in the latest "Trunk Monkey" commercial for Suburban Auto. Don't be surprised if you see him on a national T.V. channel sometime!

Martin Stevens is a multi-instrumentalist, the oldest of the group at 19, and no stranger to northwest bluegrass audiences. As a youngster, he was influenced by his older brother's bluegrass band. Martin has performed with various adult bands throughout his childhood, and has been competing since the age of 6 when he first picked up a fiddle. He has won and placed in many local, regional, state, and national fiddle contests. In addition to his fiddling accomplishments, he has won awards for vocal and other string instruments in both the adult and youth divisions. Martin has shared the stage with musicians such as grammy nominee Chris Thile of "Nickel Creek", David Grisman, and Mike Marshall. As a member of ARCB, Martin plays the fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and guitar, and sings lead and harmony vocals.
